“Being elected Mayor of Detroit, my hometown, was an honor and a privilege,” he said. “I want to thank everyone who supported me through the years. I am proud of the fact that we, as a community, were able to accomplish so much in such a short period of time.”
Kilpatrick, who leaves office at 11:59 p.m. tonight, said transition meetings with incoming Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. concluded Wednesday.
“We believe he now has all the information needed for a smooth transition,” he said. “I wish Ken Cockrel Jr. the best of luck. I encourage the citizens of Detroit to lend your support to him as he assumes the role of our city’s Interim Mayor. He will need your support because the job of Mayor requires making the tough but not always popular decisions in order to advance our city. Thank you for the honor of serving you. God bless Detroit.”
