Racism, Race Baiting and the Stoking of Racial Resentment

Here my latest entry, to my column called Slightly Right:

I am writing this because it needs to be written, especially from someone of my political leanings.  Today was quite the interesting day when it comes to race relations.  Earlier in the day, our Country’s new Attorney General; Eric Holder, castigated the United States of America, by saying that we were a “Nation of cowards,” when it comes to race relations.  I found this to be quite the interesting remark considering that the United States of America just elected an African-American as the Nation’s 44’th President,  not to mention the fact that Congress just confirmed Eric Holder to be the first African-American Attorney General. This is a form of race baiting, not to mention that fact that it is a form of stoking the racial resentment in this country.  Conversely, this is what the Democratic Party promotes and even encourage within the Party.  In the Democratic Party, it always seems like it is still 1964, before the civil rights act was passed. The Democratic Party does this, so that they can control the people and keep them around for the votes come election time.  Someone who is a bit nastier than me would refer to them as “useful idiots,” However; I am not that kind of a person.

What I just wrote about is just one of the many culprits of racial disharmony in this country and is commonly found in the Liberal circles.  Another culprit that is, in this writer’s opinion, just as bad a race baiting and that is abject racism.  A sick example of that is the cartoon that was published in the New York Post yesterday.  The cartoon was supposedly, and I use that term in the strongest way possible, a piece of satire.  The problem is the only person or persons that were laughing, was the man who drew the cartoon and the editorial staff at The New York Post. The rest of sane rational America was standing with their arms folded and toes tapping wondering just what were the New York Post thinking, when they allowed this cartoon to published?

As I have written on my blog many times, racism is just plain wrong, as is Race Baiting and this continual stoking of the racial resentments in this Country.  I will be the first person to admit, that the Liberals do the stoking, just as much as those of the Conservative side of the political fence.  It is this writers opinion that the only thing worse than a race baiter, who continually attempts to stoke the resentment between the races by continually waving the victim flag every time someone says something that is considered out of line or politically incorrect.  That is the person in the Anglo-Saxon race that says or does something intentionally offensive to cause those of the African-American race to have a knee jerk reaction.  This is more of that stoking of the flames of the historic racial resentment.

The cartoon that was published yesterday by the New York Post was classless, tasteless and downright offensive, considering that this Nation just recently took a major step, in a long list of steps of burying this nations past of ugliness towards those of the African-American race.  The only purpose of that cartoon was to stoke the flames of the resentment between the Black and White races in the country.  Furthermore, the response of the New York Post Editorial board when pressed about the issue was the typical arrogant demagoguery position of that paper.

Frankly, I am quite shocked that Rupert Murdoch, a man who is supposedly a born-again Christian and himself a immigrant from Australia would even allow this sort of tripe to be published in one of his newspapers. I do truly believe that in the quest to strike a humorous home run, the New York Post unfortunately stuck out, and quite horribly so.

  1. Your logic about our country having elected a black President and Attorney General so we can’t be called racist or racially insensitive is the same as those who say they have a black friend so they can’t be called racist.

Point one: Not everyone voted for Obama, and many ~ including you ~ don’t approve of Eric Holder. Because the REST of the country approves of Obama and Holder doesn’t mean that there aren’t a whole HECKUVA LOT of those who don’t like it, don’t approve of it, and don’t want it to remain.

Point two: Anyone who denies that there isn’t RACIAL SEGREGATION in almost every nook and cranny of America needs to have the prescription for their glasses changed. If you can’t see it everywhere ~ from television shows, to elected officials, to judges, etc. ~ then you’re just denying the reality.

Point three: Mr. Holder’s only accusation was that the US is afraid to DISCUSS race issues, and that’s as true as the fact that you have just tarred and feathered him without one supporting fact. Racism is REAL, racism is PROMINENT, and racism is not being helped by those who fight the MESSENGER without addressing the MESSAGE.

    1. …and my parents, who are both very White, and have voted Democrat since Reagan’s second term, both voted for Obama.

I choose not to vote for him, because I disagreed with his politics, does that make me racist?

  2. To “Willful Violation:”

Regarding your first point: I am one of the many out there who did not vote for Barack Obama for President. Does that make me a racist? I also do not believe that Eric Holder was a good pick for Attorney General. Does that make me a racist? Again, according to the “logic” implicit in your above statement, it would seem so. Have you ever considered that there may have been other factors that were considered in making the very important decision regarding who to vote for or back politically? I am one of a dying breed, a classical liberal, or, what has today been reduced to being called a “paleocon.”

Regarding Point two: I believe that the collectivist mentality that helps to maintain the racial segregation that undeniably remains today.

Regarding Point 3: The best way to fight racism, in my opinion, is by treating everyone as a sovereign individual, instead of as a member of a group (black, white, latino, etc.) Let’s start having that discussion. By all means, I think we should openly discuss any and all political, social, and economic issues. How else can we hear new ideas and learn from each other?

  3. Speaking as an African-American female, I believe Mr. Holder should stick to his duties as Attorney-General; which should be enough to keep him busy. President Obama gave a speech on race relations that was very intellectual. He was able to articulate his message without being devisive. He even had the guts to go to a predominately black church and lecture black men about their roles in the breakdown of the black families headed by strong black women. I remember myself years ago being invited to speak at a friend’s church. I spoke on the black community to not blame anyone else for many of their problems but rather to began to look within themselves. I received so many dirty looks from the congregation, I never went back there ever again. My father raised me this way. He said the United States was the greatest country on this earth. My father was orphaned as a little boy during the depression; yet he never blamed anyone for the hand he was dealt. He was an honest hardworking black man who raised 7 children after his wife (my mother died) of breast cancer. Five of the seven have degrees. The other two have skill trades. This man was actually my step-father because you see; my biological father was of european descent. His father said if he married my mother , he would disown him; yet I do not blame anyone for my plight. Today I am 55 years old, successful and married to a very strong man just like my stepfather and he’s “white”. “Oh well, I’ll prayer for Mr. Holder not to be bitter.”

  4. The Race to Racism is not entirely one sided. Can a White enter a Black Pageant, NO. Can a Black enter a White Pageant, YES. There are other areas that are Taboo for the “Whites”. They would be called Racists. My Objections arrive from the Fact that MR. Barrak Hussein Muhammed Obama is NOT an American and is NOT the President of the United Srtates. He is an Illegal Arab African Immigrant aka, Barry Soertor, Indonesian Muslim. He did NOT come through Customs when he entered OUR Country and has YET to Disclose his Credentials according to OUR Constitution. Therefore, being a Korean Veteran, I WILL NOT SALUTE HIM ORACKNOWLEDGE HIM AS MY PRESIDENT. HE NEEDS TO GO BACK TO AFRICA AND APPLY FOR ENTRANCE THE SAME AS THEY ARE DOING TO THE MEXICANS, THAT I PREFER OVER HIM ANY DAY.

  5. I think people are straining to find racism in this one. First of all, Obama didn’t write the “stimulus” bill, so it’s stretching things to claim that the chimp is supposed to be Obama. Secondly, even if the chimp was supposed to be Obama, let me point out that it was very common during the last 8 years to see Bush compared to a chimpanzee. What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, no?

Thirdly, all of this race-baiting misses the point of the cartoon: this stimulus bill is absolute madness that, combined with Bush’s irresponsible bailout package, will impoverish most Americans in order to save the fortunes of the politically connected.

    1. Hi Kevin,

I agree with what you said, for the most part. I think more than anything, the post’s timing, was not the greatest and the placement of the cartoon, on the reverse side of the page where Obama was signing the bill, wasn’t a smart move.

I do however, agree with this here:

Thirdly, all of this race-baiting misses the point of the cartoon: this stimulus bill is absolute madness that, combined with Bush’s irresponsible bailout package, will impoverish most Americans in order to save the fortunes of the politically connected.

Amen, Amen, and Amen. As someone who has not had a job here in Michigan since 2005, I am left wondering, Hmmmm, where’s my Bailout and Stimulus? I admit some of my problems with the ability to find the job are my own. But Cripes, where’s my damn check at? I made ZERO income last year, I won’t be getting squat. So, Yeah, I’m kinda pissed about that.

However, what really PISSES ME OFF is how the Neo-Cons are being such pricks towards the Auto Companies, I will admit, I am a bit biased there; my dad is retired from G.M.; anyhow, these idiots want to see my Dad lose his insurance. I just don’t get that at all. My Dad didn’t create this economic mess, why should he be punished? Besides all that, the UNIONS are paying for the retires insurance, not the company. So, I just don’t get all this hate.

Sorry to ramble, but I wanted to make these points.
