Take a recent report entitled “Advancing the Economic Security of Unmarried Women” by the Center for American Progress, the “progressive” nonprofit run by Bill Clinton’s former chief of staff John Podesta. The report reviews the problems of a growing segment of our society: unmarried women. They are poorer, more likely than other women to be unemployed, have less access to health care, and often struggle to care for children without support from fathers.

What’s CAP’s solution? More government at every turn. Among the recommended proposals are more generous unemployment benefits, more job-training and job-placement programs, greater subsidies for child care, more generous child-nutrition programs, direct welfare payments for those with children, government intervention to prevent foreclosures, expanded low-income-housing programs, an increased minimum wage, government intervention to increase the pay of occupations dominated by women, mandatory paid family and sick leave, and, of course, government-provided health care. In other words, complete cradle-to-grave, taxpayer-provided government support.

It’s tempting to call this paper sexist: Women — especially unmarried women — are portrayed as barely able to subsist without extra protection. One could also ruminate on CAP’s view of family formation, which seems willing to substitute a dependent relationship on the government for marriage. A woman without a man is encouraged to depend on Uncle Sam.

Evangelical Christian minister Tim LaHaye says that the policy initiatives put forth by the Obama administration are bringing the country “closer to the apocalypse.”

LaHaye issued the dire warning in an appearance this week on Mike Huckabee’s talk show on Fox News.

“Our present president doesn’t seem to get it,” LaHaye explained. “He doesn’t understand that some of the things he’s introducing that many of us call ‘raw socialism’ — it’s a different name, but it’s essentially government control and government domination of everything.”

The evangelical voice said of the political platform maintained by the Obama administration, “It’s going to work against our country and bringing us closer to the apocalypse.”

Huckabee went on to prod LaHaye a bit further on his assertion. “Are we now living in the end times, from your perspective?” asked the former Arkansas Governor and possible 2012 White House contender.

LaHaye’s response: “Very definitely, governor.”

Tim Lahaye does not know the hour of the coming of Christ, than anyone else. Further more, President Obama is not pushing us closer to the coming of Christ, no more than Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr., Ronald Reagan or Jimmy Carter. This is classic straight up fear-mongering.

When the subject of extending unemployment benefits arose, Wamp complained that giving people unemployment insurance was “creating a culture of dependence which we do not need.” He then said that he wants “people out there scraping and clawing and looking for work and not just sitting back waiting.

After more than 45 years as Detroit’s trusted source for weather, WXYZ-TV Chief Meteorologist Jerry Hodak will retire from Detroit’s ABC affiliate in September.

Hodak, a native Detroiter, began his broadcasting career as a newscaster at WDET-FM at Wayne State University. He went on to report for WDBO-TV in Orlando, Florida and covered many of the early space launches from Cape Canaveral for the CBS radio and television networks.

He returned to Detroit in 1965 as a weathercaster for WJBK-TV. In 1977, he joined the WXYZ-TV family as a weathercaster and Science Editor. He currently appears on Action News at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

“Jerry Hodak is synonymous with weather in Detroit and we will certainly miss his calming style, smooth approach and delivery,” said WXYZ-TV Vice-President and General Manager Ed Fernandez. “We in the WXYZ family are grateful for his years of service and dedication to WXYZ, the broadcast industry, and the viewers of Detroit. Jerry is a true professional who will be sorely missed for his gracious nature and his gentlemanly style inside the halls of Broadcast House. We wish him all the best as he makes this important decision for his life and begins to enjoy more time with his family and friends.”

I have been watching this man since I was a kid still living on the southwest side of Detroit. Jerry is the best. I could go on and on about his intelligence, his even-handed cool delivery and so on. He is one the best at what he does and I believe that Detroit, Michigan will be a poorer place because of it. However, Jerry knows when it is time to retire and let the new talent take over. Jerry is a part of what I like call the “Golden Age” at WXYZ-TV in the 1960′s, 1970′s and especially in the 1980′s, when I was watching as a kid.

MARSHALL, Mich. (WXYZ) – Governor Jennifer Granholm is criticizing the company responsible for the massive oil spill in Calhoun County, saying the reaction to the disaster has been anemic. Granholm says Enbridge Energy, based in Houston, has not done enough to stop the flow of oil.

The oil was discovered leaking from a ruptured pipeline in a creek in Marshall. By Tuesday evening the slick had traveled almost 30 miles, creeping closer to Morrow Lake.

The governor declared a state of disaster in Calhoun County and other potentially affected areas to make state resources readily available.

In the path of the oil, animals, including birds and fish. Also homes that have stood for decades are now empty because some residents were forced to leave, but state and local officials say the number of evacuees has been minimal.

All told almost 850,000 gallons – or 19,500 barrels – of oil has spewed from the broken pipeline. The cause for the breach in the 30-inch diameter line is still under investigation, though it has been sealed. State officials say it was last inspected in 2009.

Enbridge Energy’s CEO says his company will be responsible for the damage the slick has caused and will compensate Michigan’s families and businesses. However no commitment has been made about how much the company will spend to repay those affected.

CBS News reports:

Hundreds of Afghan civilians who worked as informants for the U.S. military have been put at risk by WikiLeaks’ publication of more than 90,000 classified intelligence reports which name and in many cases locate the individuals, The Times newspaper reported Wednesday.

The article says, in spite of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s claim that sensitive information had been removed from the leaked documents, that reporters scanning the reports for just a couple hours found hundreds of Afghan names mentioned as aiding the U.S.-led war effort.

One specific example cited by the paper is a report on an interview conducted by military officers of a potential Taliban defector. The militant is named, along with his father and the village in which they live.

“The leaks certainly have put in real risk and danger the lives and integrity of many Afghans,” a senior official at the Afghan foreign ministry told The Times on condition of anonymity. “The U.S. is both morally and legally responsible for any harm that the leaks might cause to the individuals, particularly those who have been named. It will further limit the U.S./international access to the uncensored views of Afghans.”

If this does not piss you off; check your pulse.

What will this mean for the war effort?  The US will probably have to move all of the people named in the documents and their families, which means they won’t be able to continue in their current efforts.  After this exposure, we’ll have a lot of trouble finding anyone else who wants to work with us on the ground in Afghanistan, which makes our efforts there a hell of a lot more complicated, and will probably result in more dead Americans as well as Afghans.

We gave them that war and now this communist piece of shit decides that the war should stop and is going out of his way harm our people. So, forget arresting him, forget hunting him down, save the justice system some money and put a bounty on his head and kill the god damned bastard.

A passenger jet carrying 152 people crashed into the hills surrounding Pakistan’s capital amid rain Wednesday, killing everyone aboard, an official said.

Imtiaz Elahi, the chairman of the Capital Development Authority, told The Associated Press that earlier reports of five survivors from the crash were wrong and that all aboard died. The Capital Development Authority has a group that responds to emergency situations.

Richard Snelsire, a spokesman at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad confirmed that two U.S. citizens were among the dead. The victims were not identified, pending notification of their families.

The cause of the Airblue crash was not immediately clear, said Pervez George, a civil aviation official. He said the plane had left the southern city of Karachi at 7:45 a.m. for a two-hour scheduled flight to Islamabad and was trying to land during difficult weather. Airblue is a private service based in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city.

Al Qaeda’s second in command Ayman Al-Zawahiri has surfaced again, this time threatening more attacks against the U.S. and the West.

“Oh American people…We offered you a peace plan, and mutual benefit; but your governments were proud and haughty, and so the attacks against you followed one after another, everywhere – from Indonesia to Times Square, by way of Madrid and London. And the attacks are ongoing, and more will come one after another,” said Zawahiri, according to a transcript provided by the Middle East Media Research Institute, based in Washington, DC.

Zawahiri also continued his promise of near victory in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other issues.

Former White House national security official Richard Clarke, now an ABC News consultant, said that up until this point, there haven’t been any correlations between Zawahiri’s past threats and any attacks actually occurring.

“U.S. government and counterterrorism officials are not going to increase their alert based on Zawahiri’s statement, because of his previous track record,” Clarke said. “But they’re on relatively high alert already because of the increase in homegrown terrorist threats related to al Qaeda.”

The 47-minute audio message, a eulogy for Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid, was posted on jihadist websites July 27 by al Qaeda’s media arm Al-Sahab.

Does it not strike anyone else as extremely ironic, that the United States of America, with all of it’s vast capabilities of spying, with all of it’s military might, with all of it’s ability to track down and hunt people who are operating outside of law; cannot tract down a couple of religious throwbacks that are intent on destroying America? Now, if I were some sort of partisan idiot; I would say something very stupid like, “Obama does not want these guys caught, because he is some sort of a undercover Muslim.” But I am not, so, no, I am not going to say this; because quite frankly, that sort of statement for one, is hateful and racist as hell, and two, is out of touch with reality.

What I will say this; this is a perfect example of that the fact that big Government just does not work. The Presidents, past and present, continue to throw money at our Military and intelligence services; but yet they cannot catch these idiots?  Does anyone else, besides me, find this to be incredibility ironic? I mean, if someone like me, got behind on my taxes, the United States Government would have no trouble whatsoever tracking me down and find me. But these religious throwbacks cannot be found. I do not believe in conspiracy theories at all. But I believe this points to a systematic failure of our Government on the highest of levels; which reaffirms my personal belief that big Government is a bad idea and that it simply does not work.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy was caught on video erupting with personal comments while escorting a religious group away from a recent concert.

BCSO Deputy Jim Goff is a veteran of the department and years away from retirement.

The religious group was protesting outside a Rob Zombie concert on July 17th at the Pavilion. Deputies were called to escort them out. Goff was among them.

The religious group recorded the entire ordeal and put it on YouTube. It started with Goff asking the protestors to leave the property but the group was not taking the orders well.

“This is private property, leave you can go or you can go to jail,” Goff said.

“It’s against my constitutional right, these people are free right here are fee to be out here? Why cant we,” said one protestor.

That’s when Goff got the crowd involved and asked what they wanted the group to do.

“You guys, do you want them to stay or go,” Goff said.

The protestors eventually started to leave as they continued preaching to the crowd and the deputies. Goff responded.

“There is only one way to heaven and that’s through Jesus Christ the Lord,” said a protestor.

“I am a non-believer, there is no God, there is no Jesus, there is no Satan,” Goff said.

Through all the shouting, arguing and antagonizing the other deputies kept their cool. Goff, however, had one more questionable comment.

“You must have a crush on me, man are you like a gay homosexual, you keep filming me,” Goff said.

The attacks against Christians and on the first amendment in the United States of America continue under the Obama Administration. Further proof that we are truly in the last days. Remember that folks. Remember that also come 2010 and 2012 and vote accordingly.

But, of course:

Sheriff Manny Gonzales called the deputy’s comments very inappropriate.

“I watched the video and it’s an edited version. We’re going to make a request from our internal affairs unit to get a full, a full copy so we can make the right responses,” Gonzales said.

The video is on at least three different websites including YouTube, where more than 7,000 viewers have already seen it.

Gonzales said he will not comment on if Goff will be reprimanded until they conduct a complete investigation.

The sheriff also said he did not know about the concert confrontation until News 13 called and asked about it.

In other words, he will be back to work today and nothing will happen.
